Welding neck flanges made of ASTM A182 Gr. F316, ASME B16.5 12" Class 300 RF SCH40, supplied to Israel.
Compared to SS 304/ 304L flanges, stainless steel 316/ 316L flanges have enhanced resistance to pitting corrosion in chloride environments due to the addition of molybdenum. The letter “L” denotes low carbon content. According to ASME B16.5 and ASME B16.47, SS 316/ 316L flanges may be made from forgings of ASTM A182 Grade F316 or F316L, castings of ASTM A351 Grades CF8M or CF3M, and plates of ASTM A240 Grades 316 or 316L. Designated with nominal composition of 16Cr-12Ni-2Mo, the flange materials can be classified into two groups based on its pressure-temperature ratings: Group 2.2 – including ASTM A182 F316, ASTM A351 CF8M & CF3M, and ASTM A240 Gr. 316; Group 2.3 – including ASTM A182 F316L and ASTM A240 Gr. 316L.
SS 316/ 316L flanges can be furnished in diverse types such as welding neck, slip on, blind, socket welding, lap joint, threaded, and reducing, etc. Flanges of ASME B16.5 may be provided in sizes 1/2″ through 24″ in Class 150, 300, 400, 600, 900, 1500, 2500. Flanges of ASME B16.47 Series A may be provided in sizes 26″ through 60″ in Class 150, 300, 400, 600, 900; while flanges of ASME B16.47 Series B may be provided in sizes 26″ through 60 in Class 75, 150, 300, 400, 600, 900.
Stainless steel 316/ 316L flanges may be made by a hot forging or casting process. Blind or slip-on plate flanges without hub may be machined directly from plates. The flanges shall be solution treated at a temperature no less than 1900°F [1040°C], followed by a quench in cold water or other rapid cooling means.
