A typical ring joint flanged connection conforming to ASME B16.47. It consists of two B16.47 RTJ flanges, a metal ring gasket, and necessary bolting.

Dimensions and tolerances of RTJ facings

ASME B16.47 RTJ flanges refer to large diameter welding neck or blind flanges made in accordance with ASME B16.47 with ring-type joint facings. Similar to that of ASME B16.5, the RTJ flange conforming to ASME B16.47, either Series A or Series B, is also furnished with a ring-joint groove in the contact surface. A corresponding metallic ring gasket, made in conformance with ASME B16.20, will rest in the smooth groove to form a tight seal when being bolted. ASME B16.47 has specified the ring-joint facing dimensions for flanges in sizes NPS 26 through NPS 36 for Class 300, Class 400, Class 600, and Class 900.
