Technical Drawing & Function
The drawing of ASME B16.11 socket welding (SW) boss. B: socket bore diameter; C: socket wall thickness; D: bore diameter of SW boss; J: socket depth; F: laying length of SW boss.
The drawing of ASME B16.11 forged boss with threaded ends. B: minimum length of perfect thread; L2: effective length of external thread; D: outside diameter; W/2: end to end length of threaded boss.
The ASME B16.11 welding boss, either with socket welding end (Class 3000, 6000, 9000) or threaded end (Class 3000, 6000), is used as a branch connection on pipe header or a nozzle connection on equipment. It resembles the function of a weld outlet. A branch pipe is joined by socket welding or threaded connection of the boss. The boss is then welded onto the external surface of pipe header. Compared to a half coupling, the other end is bevelled at an angle of 45°±2.5° with a root face of 1.6mm±0.76mm. The bevelled end will facilitate the welding process.
