ASTM A105 for ASME B31.1 Power Piping | Allowable Stresses

The forged carbon steel piping components, either flanges or fittings, made from ASTM A105 materials can be applied to ASME B31.1 power piping. The allowable stress values for power piping shall be determined in accordance with 102.3.1 of Code B31.1. These values are generally consistent with those assigned for Section I, power boilers. The maximum allowable stress values, S, in tension at elevated temperatures for ASTM A105 piping components are listed in the table below. Generally, allowable stress values in shear for ASTM A105 piping components shall not exceed 80% of the values determined in the table below. Allowable stress values in bearing shall not exceed 160% of the determined values.
