MW-Series Knife Gate Valves for Secondary Sedimentation Tanks

November 26, 2024

In municipal wastewater treatment plants, secondary sedimentation tanks play a crucial role in separating suspended solids and sediments from wastewater through gravity. The bottom of these tanks accumulates high-concentration sludge containing fibers, sand particles, and other debris. Controlling and discharging this abrasive and adhesive sludge requires specialized equipment. Traditional gate valves often fail in this setting due to clogging from fibrous materials, severe wear from sand abrasion, and difficulty maintaining smooth sludge discharge. These issues not only reduce system efficiency but also escalate maintenance costs.

Metalsin‘s MW series knife gate valves provide an ideal solution to address these challenges. They feature the following unique designs:

  • Non-rising stem design: The non-rising stem ensures that the stem does not extend during valve operation, making the structure compact and space-saving, which is particularly suitable for the narrow and complex installation environment of the secondary sedimentation tank piping.
  • Blade-style gate design: The gate is designed to cut through fibrous materials in sludge effectively, preventing entanglement and ensuring smooth operation.
  • Optimized valve chamber design: The valve chamber is carefully engineered to minimize sludge buildup, significantly reducing the risk of clogging.

  • Customizable sealing options: Depending on the operating conditions, these valves can be configured with either soft or metal seated options. Both the gate and seat are made of wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant materials, greatly extending the valve’s service life.
  • Versatile actuation options: The MW series knife gate valves can be operated via handwheel, lever, gearbox, pneumatic actuator, electric actuator, or hydraulic actuator, depending on customer requirements.
  • Various body constructions & pressure ratings: The body construction of MW-series knife gate valves can be either wafer type, lug type, or double-flanged type. They can be furnished with various flange-drilling dimensions in accordance with PN10 or PN16 of BS 4504, EN1092-1, and DIN standards, or 150LB of ASME B16.5.
