EN 1092-1 flanges can be made from duplex (austenitic-ferritic) stainless steel forgings EN 10222-5 X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 with steel number 1.4462. The X2CrNiMoN22-5-3/ 1.4462 steel is the European equivalent to ASTM A182 Gr. F51 (S31803). It is also called “duplex alloy 2205”. If the chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen content is kept within the upper half of the range for 1.4462, it is the exact equivalent to ASTM A182 Gr. F60 (S32205). When tested in accordance with EN ISO 3651-2, flanges made of X2CrNiMoN22-5-3/ 1.4462 forgings exhibit excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion. The flange may be furnished in any type according to EN 1092-1 including Type 01, 02, 04, 05, 11, 12, 13, 21, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, and 37 with PN designation from PN 2.5 through PN 400. EN 0192-1 is more conservative in the upper temperature limit for 1.4462 than the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Generally, the maximum design temperature of X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 flange is 250°C [480°F]. Higher than this temperature at service may result in embrittlement.

*The EN 10222-5 X2CrNiMoN22-5-3/ 1.4462 flanges shall be solution annealed at the temperature between 1020°C to 1100°C, followed by a water quench.
*The thickness of the ruling section of the flange shall be no greater than 350 mm.

The p/T ratings indicate the maximum allowable pressure (PS, in bar unit) at the maximum allowable temperature (TS, in °C unit) are presented in tables below. RT (reference temperature) is defined as the temperature range from -10°C to and including 50°C.
